Trekkers traverse lush rainforests that slowly open into expansive moorlands and the stunning Shira Plateau. Along the way, iconic landmarks such as Lava Tower and the formidable Barranco Wall challenge climbers while offering panoramic vistas. The seven-day itinerary allows for a gradual ascent, helping your body adapt to high altitudes and increasing the chances of a successful summit.
Unlike shorter routes, the 7-day schedule balances daily trekking distances and rest periods, giving trekkers time to adjust while still maintaining a steady climb. Nights are spent in comfortable camps, providing rest and nutrition to fuel the demanding journey ahead. Expert guides and support staff accompany the group, ensuring safety, guidance, and logistical assistance throughout the trek.
The route passes through seven distinct ecological zones, from dense rainforest to alpine desert, culminating at Uhuru Peak, Kilimanjaro’s summit. Trekkers are rewarded with a spectacular sunrise and sweeping views of the African plains. Descending via the Mweka Route allows a smooth and scenic return to base camp, completing a truly unforgettable adventure.

If you've chosen the optional airport transfers, our team will arrange to pick you up either from Kilimanjaro Airport or Arusha Airport and transfer you to your hotel in Moshi.
Once you've settled in, we'll schedule a pre-trek briefing at your hotel in Moshi. It's recommended to arrive at least one day before the trek begins to ensure you're well-rested and prepared. During the briefing, we'll discuss the itinerary in detail, review your equipment, and provide any necessary rentals to ensure you have everything needed for a successful trek.
After breakfast, drive from Moshi to Lemosho Gate (approximately 2.5 to 3 hours). This route is one of the most scenic and less crowded, making it ideal for an immersive trekking experience. Begin your hike through the lush rainforest and ascend gradually toward Mti Mkubwa Camp, where you'll stay overnight.
On Day 2, you'll leave Mti Mkubwa Camp and continue your ascent along the forested path before entering the moorland zone. The terrain gradually changes as you make your way to Shira 2 Camp, which sits on the Shira Plateau, offering magnificent views of the surrounding landscape.
On Day 3, you will hike through alpine desert terrain as you make your way to Barranco Camp. This day includes passing the famous Lava Tower at 4,630m/15,190ft, which helps with acclimatization. Afterward, you'll descend to Barranco Camp for an overnight stay.
On Day 4, you will hike from Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp, which is a short but steep ascent. This hike allows you to acclimatize further while enjoying breathtaking views of the surrounding areas. Karanga Camp is the last camp before the summit push, so it serves as an excellent resting spot.
On Day 5, you'll make your way to Barafu Camp, a significant milestone as it is the final stop before the summit push. The terrain is rocky and barren, offering stunning views of the mountain. Prepare for the midnight summit attempt by resting and gathering strength at Barafu Camp.
On Day 6, you will start your ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. The climb begins early in the morning (around midnight) and continues through the night. After reaching the summit, you will take in the breathtaking views before beginning your descent to Mweka Camp, where you will rest for the night.
On the final day, descend from Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate, where your trek officially ends. After completing the descent, you'll receive your summit certificate and be transferred back to your hotel in Moshi for rest and celebration.
