5 (Five) Days Serengeti Migration All Seasons — Detailed Itinerary

Day 0 : Arrival and Transfer to Hotel

Arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport (ARK) and transfer to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi. Rest, freshen up, and enjoy a safari briefing for your upcoming adventure.

Day 1 : Arusha to Central Serengeti

Drive from Arusha to Central Serengeti. Begin your migration safari with an afternoon game drive across the vast plains, spotting wildebeests, zebras, lions, and other wildlife. Note: during Calving Season (Jan–Mar) the southern/central plains host thousands of newborns; during River Crossing Season (Jul–Oct) this route can be adjusted northwards to target Mara river crossings.

  • Distance: ~320 km (6–7 hours with stops)
  • Game Drive: Afternoon in Central Serengeti
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  • Accommodation: Lodge or camp inside Central Serengeti

Day 2 : Central to North Serengeti

Enjoy morning game drives in Central Serengeti, then transfer to North Serengeti for more migration viewing. Track the wildebeest herds and predators across this iconic landscape. If travelling in River Crossing Season (Jul–Oct), the North Serengeti provides access to the Mara River crossing zones; in Calving Season (Jan–Mar) expect concentrated herds and intense predator activity in central areas.

  • Distance: ~150 km (3–4 hours with game drive)
  • Game Drive: Morning in Central, Afternoon in North Serengeti
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  • Accommodation: Lodge or camp in North Serengeti

Day 3 : North to Central Serengeti

Morning game drives in North Serengeti before transferring back to Central Serengeti. Continue tracking the migrating herds and enjoy more predator sightings. River-crossing photo opportunities occur in northern river systems during Jul–Oct; calving-related predator behavior peaks in Jan–Mar.

  • Distance: ~150 km (3–4 hours with game drive)
  • Game Drive: Morning in North, Afternoon in Central Serengeti
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  • Accommodation: Lodge or camp in Central Serengeti

Day 4 : Central Serengeti to Ngorongoro/Karatu

Morning game drive in Central Serengeti, then drive to Ngorongoro area with wildlife viewing en route. Overnight near Ngorongoro Crater rim.

  • Distance: ~200 km (4–5 hours with game drive)
  • Game Drive: Morning in Central Serengeti
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  • Accommodation: Lodge or camp near Ngorongoro

Day 5 : Ngorongoro Crater and Return to Arusha

After breakfast, descend into Ngorongoro Crater for a 4–5 hour game drive. Spot the Big Five and other wildlife in this spectacular caldera. After a picnic lunch, drive back to Arusha for airport or hotel drop-off.

  • Distance: ~190 km (4–5 hours)
  • Game Drive: 4–5 hours inside the Crater
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
  • Drop-off: JRO, ARK, or hotel in Arusha

Departure Day : Transfer to Airport or Hotel

Depending on your flight, transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport (ARK). Alternatively, drop-off at your hotel in Arusha or Moshi.

  • Drop-off: JRO or ARK
